Glow-worm enters the heat pump race: the GeniaAir range, "without the faff"
Glow-worm — a brand most British households know from the boiler on the kitchen wall — launched its GeniaAir air source heat pump range in June 2026 and put it centre-stage at InstallerSHOW 2026. Three R290 monobloc sizes, flow temperatures up to 70 °C, and a pitch aimed squarely at simplicity. Here’s what’s under the marketing.

Launched at the start of June 2026 and featured at InstallerSHOW 2026 (23–25 June, NEC Birmingham): three monobloc air source heat pumps at 5, 7 and 11 kW, running R290 refrigerant with flow temperatures up to 70 °C, weighing 84–133 kg, with single-fan construction and a Flexible Space Function that shrinks the protection zones near windows and doors. Matched HydraCyl cylinders (150–250 L) and MiPro controls complete the system, with a 5-year guarantee when heat pump and cylinder are registered together.
The range in detail
The GeniaAir is a three-model family of monobloc units — all the refrigeration engineering lives outdoors, with water-only connections into the house, which keeps installation within the skill set of any competent heating engineer rather than requiring F-Gas refrigerant work indoors:

Two specifications matter more than the launch photography. First, R290: the propane refrigerant that has become the retrofit standard, delivering high flow temperatures efficiently and future-proofing against F-Gas phase-downs. Second, the 70 °C maximum flow temperature — genuine boiler-replacement territory that gives designers headroom for hot water and the odd legacy emitter, though (as regular readers will chant along) running at 70 °C daily is how you buy boiler-sized bills with heat pump capital. The Flexible Space Function is quietly the most useful line on the datasheet: reduced clearance zones near openings rescue real siting options on the tight terrace plots we design for every week.
"Without the faff" — the positioning
Glow-worm is pitching the GeniaAir under its long-running “Without The Faff” banner, aimed at installers new to heat pumps as much as at veterans. James Fowler of Glow-worm put it plainly at launch: “Installers don’t need more faff, they need products that work.” The single-fan, low-weight design (84 kg for the 5 kW is manageable for two people without a crane hire) and pre-matched cylinder/controls packages are all in service of that promise.
It’s smart positioning. Glow-worm — part of the same group as Vaillant, sharing its engineering platform — is a brand thousands of installers already buy, trust and know how to get parts for on a Saturday. Lowering the intimidation threshold for boiler installers moving into heat pumps is exactly what the industry’s capacity problem needs. “‘Simple to install’ is a genuine virtue — half the faults I’ve inherited over 18 years trace back to complexity nobody needed. But hear the caveat inside the slogan: the faff Glow-worm removed is the hardware faff. The room-by-room heat loss, the emitter checks, the flow temperature decision — that ‘faff’ is the design, and no product removes it. A no-faff unit on a no-design system is still a disappointment with a nice warranty.”
