Samsung EHS Quint: Heating, Hot Water and Air Conditioning From One Heat Pump

Most heat pumps do two jobs. They heat your home and they heat your water. If you also want cooling in the summer, you have historically needed a second outdoor unit, a second refrigerant system and a second set of decisions.
The Samsung EHS Quint is interesting because it sets out to do both from one outdoor unit. Samsung presents it as an air-to-water heat pump — radiators, underfloor heating, a hot-water cylinder — that can also serve compatible air-to-air indoor units for proper air conditioning, and which can recover heat from that cooling and push it into your hot water.
I have spent eighteen years in this industry and I have a heat pump on my own house. I also have separate air conditioning, because when I designed my system, doing cooling properly and doing it through the heating system were two different problems. So a product that genuinely closes that gap has my attention.
This page is the hub for everything we have established about the Quint. It is deliberately cautious. Samsung has published GB product pages with real model numbers and real technical data, which is more than most emerging products offer. What has not been established is the part that decides whether you can actually buy one, whether it attracts a grant, and what it costs installed.

Samsung has public GB product information for the EHS Quint, including model references and technical data. However, Heat Loss Hub is still treating UK availability, approved indoor-unit combinations, MCS status, Boiler Upgrade Scheme treatment, installed cost and installer route as items to check before relying on the product for a quote, grant application or installation decision.
Do not assume the Samsung EHS Quint is MCS certified, BUS eligible, generally available or priced unless current official sources confirm the exact model and configuration.
What is the Samsung EHS Quint?
The EHS Quint is an outdoor heat pump unit that Samsung presents as being able to run air-to-water heating, domestic hot water and air-to-air heating and cooling from the same refrigeration system.
In practical terms that means one outdoor unit potentially serving:
- Your wet heating system — radiators, underfloor heating or fan convectors, via a hydronic indoor unit
- Your hot water cylinder — the same as any air-to-water heat pump
- Air-conditioning indoor units — wall-mounted or ducted units on refrigerant pipework, giving real air conditioning rather than chilled water through radiators
- Heat recovery — when the air-conditioning side is cooling rooms, Samsung describes the extracted heat being diverted to the hot-water tank rather than being dumped outside
At the time of writing, Samsung’s GB pages list three outdoor model references:

The system uses R32 refrigerant. Samsung’s published leaving-water temperatures are 15–65 °C in heating and 5–25 °C in cooling.

Why the Quint matters
Cooling demand in UK homes is rising, and the heating industry has been giving people a slightly evasive answer about it for years.
The evasive answer goes like this: “a heat pump can cool as well.” Technically true for some units. Practically, running chilled water through radiators or underfloor pipework brings dew-point and condensation problems, needs controls most installations do not have, and delivers far less cooling than people expect. Underfloor cooling is gentle at best. Radiators are the wrong emitter entirely for it. Fan coils can work, but only if they were designed in from the start.
So the honest position has been: if you want reliable, room-by-room cooling, you install air conditioning, and that has meant a second outdoor unit.
The Quint’s proposition is that you would not need to. If that holds up in UK practice, it changes the conversation for anyone planning heating and cooling at the same time — new builds, deep renovations, extensions, and homes where wall space and outdoor space are both tight.
That is a meaningful “if”. It is not a certainty.
Heating, hot water, cooling and heat recovery
Heating
Standard air-to-water operation. The Quint can feed radiators, underfloor heating or fan convectors. Samsung’s published upper leaving-water temperature is 65 °C, which is high for a heat pump, but a high available flow temperature is not a reason to design a system around one. The efficiency of your system is driven by the flow temperature you actually run at, and that is decided by your heat loss and your emitters — not by the badge on the outdoor unit.

Hot water
Cylinder heating works as it would on any air-to-water heat pump. Samsung’s B2C page states domestic hot water production up to +43 °C from the heat-recovery mode specifically; the ambient operating envelope for DHW is quoted as −25 to 43 °C. Cylinder sizing, reheat times and legionella provision still need designing properly.
Cooling
This is the differentiator. Cooling is delivered by dedicated air-to-air indoor units on refrigerant pipework — the same principle as a normal air-conditioning system — rather than by pushing cold water round your heating circuit. That means real cooling capacity, room-by-room zoning, and dehumidification.
Heat recovery
Samsung describes heat extracted during air-to-air cooling being diverted to the domestic hot water tank. Conceptually this is attractive: in summer you are cooling rooms and getting hot water from heat you would otherwise reject outside.
I want to be careful here. Heat recovery is a real and sensible feature. How much it is worth to a specific household depends on how much cooling that household actually runs, at what times, and against what hot-water demand. Until there is UK operating data, nobody — including us — can put a credible number on the saving. Treat anyone who does with suspicion.
CONSIDERING HEATING AND COOLING TOGETHER?
Before committing to one system or two, find out what your home actually needs.
Who the Quint may suit
Based on what has been published so far, the Quint may be worth considering if:
- You are planning heating and cooling together, rather than adding cooling later
- You are replacing a boiler and know you also want air conditioning
- You have limited outdoor space and would struggle to site two outdoor units
- You are doing a new build, extension or deep renovation where pipework routes are open
- You have radiators or underfloor heating that a properly designed low-temperature system can work with
- You want to reduce the number of outdoor units for planning, noise or aesthetic reasons
Who may not need it
Equally, separate systems may still be the better answer if:
- You already have a modern heat pump that is working well — adding a standalone AC system is simpler than replacing everything
- You only want cooling in one or two rooms, where a small dedicated split system is cheaper and simpler
- You want heating and cooling to be independent — two systems means one fault does not take out both
- You need to install now, on a defined timescale, with confirmed grant treatment
- You want the widest choice of equipment and installers, which today favours established products
That last point deserves emphasis. A conventional air-to-water heat pump plus a separate multi-split air-conditioning system is a proven combination available today, from many manufacturers, installed by many contractors, with settled grant treatment. The Quint has to be better than that specific alternative — not better than doing nothing.
MCS, the Boiler Upgrade Scheme and availability — read this before you plan around it
This is the part where I would ask you to be sceptical of anyone selling you a Quint.
MCS. At the time of writing we have not found a listing in the MCS Product Directory under the EHS Quint name or the model references above. Product certification and installer certification are two different things, and both matter. Do not assume either. → Is the Samsung EHS Quint MCS certified?
Boiler Upgrade Scheme. BUS currently pays £7,500 towards an air source heat pump and £2,500 towards an air-to-air heat pump, with an additional £1,500 available until March 2027 for off-gas-grid properties on oil or LPG. The Quint does both jobs from one unit. Which category an installation falls into is a genuine open question, and it is not one an installer can settle by assertion. Can one Samsung EHS Quint really do heating, hot water and air conditioning?
Samsung presents it as able to run air-to-water heating, domestic hot water and air-to-air heating and cooling from one outdoor unit. Whether it can do all of that adequately for your home depends on your heat loss, your emitters, your hot-water demand and how many rooms you want cooled. That is a design question, not a product question.
Is the Samsung EHS Quint MCS certified?
At the time of writing we have not found a listing in the MCS Product Directory under the EHS Quint name or its model references. Do not assume certification, and check the exact model and configuration you are being quoted.
Is the Samsung EHS Quint eligible for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme?
This is not confirmed. Because the Quint does both air-to-water and air-to-air work, which BUS category applies is an open question. Do not let anyone deduct a grant from a quote before eligibility is confirmed for your specific installation.
How much does the Samsung EHS Quint cost?
No UK installed price has been published. The outdoor unit price alone would not tell you much anyway — the number that matters includes the cylinder, indoor units, emitters, pipework, electrical work, controls, design and commissioning.
When will it be available in the UK?
We have not found a confirmed public UK on-sale date. Samsung has live GB product pages and has showcased the product, but availability also depends on distribution, documentation, installer training and support.
Can it heat and cool at the same time?
Samsung describes simultaneous heating and cooling across air-to-air and air-to-water applications, with heat recovery diverting heat from cooling into the hot water tank. This is one of the more genuinely interesting aspects of the product.
How many air-conditioning units can I connect?
Samsung describes support for multiple indoor unit configurations, but no UK combination matrix, maximum unit count or pipework limits have been published that we can find. This has to be confirmed against Samsung’s approved combinations for the exact model before anyone designs around it.
Should I wait for it, or install now?
If your boiler has failed or you are on a fixed timescale, do not wait. If you are planning heating and cooling together and have time, it may be worth watching — but do the design work now either way, because heat loss, emitters and hot-water demand do not change based on which product you eventually choose.
Will it work with my existing radiators?
Possibly, but that requires a room-by-room heat loss calculation against your actual radiator outputs at the flow temperature you intend to run. Just because something will work does not mean it has been designed to work efficiently.
Is it quieter than having two outdoor units?
One unit instead of two is intuitively appealing for noise and for planning. Samsung publishes sound pressure and sound power figures and a Night Mode, but published acoustic figures are measured under specific conditions and are not a substitute for a site-specific noise assessment where that matters — for example near a boundary.
